Pool Installation

Your Swimming Pool Installation Experts!

Most people build a swimming pool for their own enjoyment whilst living in a house, however it is important to consider who may buy your home in the future. A really aesthetically pleasing well-kept entertainment area with a pool makes it easier to sell your property. Some agents believe that it can add as much as R100 000 in perceivable value.

Choosing a pool builder

When choosing a pool builder is essential to get it right the first time. There are many horror stories about homeowners going for the cheapest service providers who do not have the expertise.

What Types Of Pool Installations Are There?

There are many different types of pools: concrete pools lined with marble plaster; concrete pools lined with fiberglass, and completely fibreglass pools that have been precast offsite.

Clients also have an almost endless array of choice as far as finishing features go. There was a time when black or charcoal colored pools where very popular. If cost is no object, infinity pools (rimless or edging free on one end) are all the rage now.

Even the placement of a pool has changed with the times. In the 70s and 80s pools were at the far end of the garden or even in front of the house. The trend now is to have the pool almost connected to the back porch as a seamless extension. Wooden decks have become increasingly popular, followed by paving. There are even beach entry pools that are especially popular in Johannesburg.

Marbelite Pool installation

Marbelite is a synthetic, moldable, artificial marble that is used to coat a concrete pool. These pools are appropriate if you want a very customized shape / size of pool for example an L-shape. Marbelite pools are also better if you want to create a natural feel by adding rocks, ponds, waterfall effects etc. They are harder to maintain on a weekly basis and can be expensive to repair but look more authentic. Fibreglass Pool Installation

Fibreglass pools have become increasingly popular recently because they are cheaper and less costly to maintain. They are generally pre manufactured in a rectangular shape, and then fitted to the space that has been dug up to accommodate them. Fibreglass pools don’t crack or become discolored (and therefore don’t attract algae) and they are warmer and easier to heat. It is better for smaller functionality, and is quicker to install.

Above Ground Pools

Some clients don’t want the more costly option of a pool installation where ground has to be dug up. They also want to be able to move the pool if they relocate or decide to restructure their outdoor area.

Above ground pools are free standing, and can easily be converted into a luxury spa. They are also easier to install and maintain. Perfect Pools Sandton will custom make an above ground fiberglass pool to suit your particular taste and needs.

Below Ground Pools

Below ground pools are as the name suggests below ground level, and are generally either Marbelite or Fibreglass. This is the traditional pool that most clients choose. Pool sizes have changed considerably since the 1980s where most pools were 12 meters by 6 meters. Today the average size is 6 meters by 3 meters and they are therefore called splash pools.

Splash pools

A splash pool is utilized more for taking a refreshing dip whilst entertaining friends, than for exercise purposes. Splash pools heat up quickly, and are cheap to maintain, as well as less costly to build.

What Pool Shape To Choose?

Oval, circular and L-shaped pools with water features are not as popular as they used to be. With the fast paced contemporary lifestyle today clients want something practical, and low maintenance. “A simple square or rectangular splash pool set in a wooden deck is first prize”, says Brenda Bourgstein from Just Property.
