Why Renovate your pool?
Clients choose to renovate for the following reasons:
- To install water / rock features or mosaics.
- They want a different shape.
- In order to cut down on pool maintenance costs by reducing the size of the pool.
- They want a different coating e.g. epoxy (which is a type of resin) that comes in different colours.
- The want to install lighting for nighttime use.
- The pool has wear and tear e.g. cracks, chips and discolouration.
- To rectify initial structural and design errors.
Types of Pool Renovations
Pool renovations can take on a multitude of forms. Depending on your budget, and your preferences there is no limit to what you can do to a standard inground pool.
Here are a few types of pool renovations you may want to consider.
Resurface Your Pool
The sooner you resurface your pool, the better. Permanently treating the surface will definitely save you in the long run.
The most well known options are epoxy paint, marbelite, fibreglass, exposed aggregate, and tiling.
As with most aspects of pool renovations it largely comes down to matter of choice.
Applying a coat of epoxy paint is the cheapest option at first. It does not have UV properties and starts breaking down very quickly. Marbelite has been around for more than 40 years, and is a popular choice due to its longevity. Fibreglass coats over any pool surface and is less prone to discoloration and cracking.
Aggregate refers to quartz or marble pebbles blended with white cement. The finish is slightly rough which gives a natural sandy appearance with lots of choice as far as colour goes. The most expensive option is tiling because it lasts twice as long, but is better suited to indoor pools.
What Is Pool Coping?
Remodeling or redesigning your coping is the quickest way to transform the look of your pool. Coping refers to the edging or cap on the rim of the pool.
Any coping will wear down or become discolored over time. It is best to redo the coping when you are renovating your whole entertainment area in general. Coping comes in a wide variety of materials, textures, colours and sizes. There are stone options (limestone, bluestone, flagstone), bricks, wooden deck, cantilever coping (patio hangs over the edge of the pool) etc. In addition to serving as a decorative finish, coping also provides a non-slip surface on the precarious edge of the pool.
Pool Side Renovations
The sky is the limit when it comes to what you can do by reinventing the space around your pool. We can do wooden decks, add a diving board or slide for the kids, lighting features, greenery and landscaping. Want to stand out from the rest – consider an infinity finish or gradual-depth entry. For landlocked Joburgers, beach-entry is very trendy, and adding a mosaic design can make your pool a work of art.
